The holidays are a feast for the senses, and as a food photographer and stylist, there's no better excuse to craft show-stopping platters. A Christmas wreath grazing platter is not just a snack; it’s a show-stopping centerpiece that combines festive charm with irresistible flavours.

Here’s how to style and photograph a Christmas platter that will wow your audience (and your guests).
Step 1: choose your base
Start with a round wooden board or a large circular platter to create the foundation for your wreath shape. If you want to emphasize the colours of your "wreath," consider a neutral backdrop like a slate, marble or white wooden board to really make those colors pop.
Step 2: build the greenery
The base of your wreath is all about texture and color. Use fresh rosemary, thyme sprigs, and bay leaves to mimic the look of a real wreath. Arrange them in a circular pattern, overlapping for a lush, full effect. Bonus: herbs smell amazing, and add some sensory appeal to your setup.
Step 3: add the edible elements
Now for the fun part—decorating! Pick small, colorful bites that double as "ornaments":
Cheese: Use different varieties for visual interest, like cheddar (yellow), gouda (pale gold), and blue cheese (marbled), and cut it into different shapes (wedges, slices, cubes).
Cured meats: Roll salami or prosciutto into little rosettes and nestle them among the greenery.
Fruits: Fresh cherry tomatoes, red and green grapes, or pomegranate seeds add pops of color and festive vibes. Or go with dried fruit for more muted hues - dried figs, apricots, cranberries and currants.
Extras: Add crackers, nuts, or chocolate truffles to fill the gaps and add variety.
Keep a balance of colours and textures, making sure no one section feels too heavy.
Step 4: elevate with garnishes
For that extra festive touch, sprinkle in a few star anise pods, cinnamon sticks, or shortbread stars. You can also add a sprinkling of faux snow (AKA icing sugar) for a wintery vibe.
Step 5: photograph your Christmas wreath grazing platter
Once your wreath platter is complete, it’s time to capture it!
Lighting: Use natural light from the side to capture all that texture.
Angles: Shoot from above for that classic grazing platter vibe, and try a 45-degree angle for depth and dimension.
Props: Surround your platter with holiday props like twinkle lights, pinecones, or baubles, but don’t let them steal the spotlight.

Step 6: serve and share
Once you're happy with the images, your Christmas wreath grazing platter is ready to serve. Whether you’re styling for a client or hosting a party, it’s guaranteed to be the highlight of the table - or your Instagram feed!
Creating a festive grazing platter is a great way to merge food styling with holiday spirit. Don't forget to have fun with it, and experiment with seasonal ingredients.
